CHRISTIAN DOCTRINES AND ANTI-SEMITISM!

A tiny shoot of the fig tree was just beginning to break the soil in Palestine and nothing-not the Bishop of Jerusalem, not opposition from the Arabs, not replacement theology or those who were ignorant of God’s Word-would hinder his plan for his chosen people.

Doctor Michael David Evans

It should surprise no one that much controversy surrounds Christian Zionism. The Jews alone are controversial for so many reasons. Namely, there is the land issue. Ever since Joshua and his band of brothers and sisters marched into Canaan to claim what God had given Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, many hav refused to acknowledge the Jews’ claim to the little part of it we now know as Israel or to any land in the Middle East. Amoung Christians, Zionism seems most controversial amoung those who have embraced the theory of replacement theology or supersessionism:

This is the theological concept that, because the vast majority of Jews in the first century ce did not accept Jesus as their Messiah, God unilaterally terminated His covenants with the Jewish people and transferred them to the followers of Christianity it relegates Judaism to an inferior position and recognizes Christianity as the “true” or “spiritual” Israel.

How do you know if your own Church believes in replacement theology or suppersessionism? Simply put, if the Church does not support Israel or the Jewish people, there is a strong possibility that it is because of this doctrine. Many Churches will not even acknowledge that 1} they teach this philosophy, and 2} it is even believed. Israel is the litmus test.
